Tontitown Fire Department

Tontitown citizens are provided fire protection through an interlocal agreement with the Tontitown Area Volunteer Fire Department. This alliance assures our citizens are protected by competent and well trained personnel.

Our fire protection is governed through an inter-local board consisting of an alderman from each ward of the city. The board members for each ward are listed below:

WARD #1Henry Piazza

WARD #2Bobby Pianalto

WARD #3Julie Bowling

We encourage our citizens to provide feedback as outlined below:

About our city’s fire protection

The Tontitown Area Fire Department (TAFD) was formed in 1979 under Arkansas 176 of 1963. It began as an all-volunteer fire department serving a response area of 40 square miles that includes the city of Tontitown and the surrounding area. Continued growth of our city has led the department to become a combination department with some paid personnel serving alongside the volunteers. The primary source of funding for TAFD is derived from inter-local agreement funding from Tontitown and fees paid for individual memberships by the citizens residing in the TAFD coverage area outside the Tontitown city limits. Membership dues are also supplemented with fundraisers undertaken by the fire fighters themselves.

The Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (P.L. 93-498) authorizes the National Fire Data Center in the United States Fire Administration (USFA) to gather and analyze information on the magnitude of the Nation's fire problem, as well as its detailed characteristics and trends. The Act further authorizes the USFA to develop uniform data reporting methods, and to encourage and assist state agencies in developing and reporting data. In order to carry out the intentions of the Act, the National Fire Data Center has established the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS).
